Today, the students took part in an English immersion program at TGG (TOKYO GLOBAL GATEWAY) in Tachikawa. They were divided into pre-assigned groups, and each group was accompanied by one AGENT who guided them through all activities conducted entirely in English.
At the beginning, many students looked a little nervous. However, as they warmed up through simple games, we soon saw them trying to listen carefully and engage with the English around them. Through experiences such as simulated conversations on an airplane, practicing how to shop or order at a restaurant, and taking part in quizzes and lessons about space and plants, the students enjoyed a wide variety of programs while learning in a hands-on way. Being in an all-English environment was a significant challenge, and there were certainly moments when understanding the language was difficult. Even so, the children made sincere efforts, using gestures and facial expressions to communicate, and continued to try without giving up. They also had opportunities to interact with students from Daiyon Elementary School, and it was heartwarming to see them working together in a cheerful atmosphere.
As lunchtime approached, many children began to look forward to their bento meals. When the long-awaited lunch time finally arrived, each child enjoyed their meal with delight, finishing it quickly and happily.
During the afternoon sessions, some students began to show signs of fatigue. Spending a full day immersed in more English than they are used to clearly reflects how hard they worked.
We hope that today’s experience will support and inspire their future learning and everyday communication.
The children truly did their best throughout the entire day.
TGG(TOKYO GLOBAL GATEWAY)立川での英語体験学習
本日、子どもたちはTGG(TOKYO GLOBAL GATEWAY)立川にて英語体験学習を行いました。事前に編成したグループごとに分かれ、それぞれのグループには1名のAGENTが付き添い、すべて英語での活動に挑戦しました。
初めは、緊張した表情を見せていた子どもたちでしたが、簡単なゲームを通して気持ちもほぐれ、少しずつ英語を聞き取ろうとする姿が見られるようになりました。飛行機内でのやり取りを体験したり、買い物やレストランでの注文に挑戦したり、宇宙や植物に関するクイズや講義を受けたりと、多彩なプログラムを楽しみながら学ぶ時間となりました。英語だけの環境に身を置くことは大きな挑戦で、言葉の理解が追いつかない場面も多かったと思いますが、ジェスチャーや表情を読み取りながら試行錯誤し、諦めずに取り組む姿が印象的でした。また、第四小学校の児童とも交流し、明るい雰囲気の中で一緒に活動する姿も見られました。
お昼が近付く頃には、お弁当を楽しみにする表情があちらこちらで見られました。待ちに待ったお弁当の時間になると、どの子も嬉しそうに味わい、あっという間に食べ終えてしまう姿が微笑ましかったです。
午後のプログラムが進むにつれて、子どもたちに少し疲れた様子も見られました。普段以上に英語に囲まれた環境で一日を過ごしたことが、その頑張りを物語っています。
本日の経験が、これからの学習や日常のどこかで活かされることを願っています。
